Tai Mei Tuk

One of my friends was studying at CUHK (香港中文大學) for the term, so I went to visit as it is also my mother's alma mater. Afterwards, we headed over to Tai Mei Tuk to see the area and walk around the reservoir.

First stop: Chinese University of Hong Kong - 香港中文大學
If you can see the white speck at the right of the photo - while at CUHK, we saw it and wondered what it was...

Tai Mei Tuk - 大美督

Plover Cove Reservoir - 船灣

It began to rain as we started making our way across dam, so we turned back to get some food and wait out the crazy showers. The weather is quite different in New Territories and Hong Kong Island - while it was pouring here, I called and found out that there hadn't been a drop of rain on the island.

We headed back out after about an hour, and it is visible in this photo - the statue we saw across the water at CUHK was right by the town. I love coincidences like this, and we were happy to be able to see the statue up close when our bus passed by it.

We made a bet to see who could accurately guess how long it takes to walk across the dam, and I won at 32 minutes (it is 2 km long). If you stop to take pictures along the way, the whole trip can easily take 45 minutes one way, so be prepared to walk the distance back.

We then headed to Sha Tin for dinner and then went in search of McDonald's for some matcha soft serve... only to wander the two malls for an hour until we finally found out that although this location was once the most profitable McDonald's in the world in 1989, the crazy rising rent prices in Hong Kong has pushed out even the mighty golden arches.
